Convert Your TRCN to QTS

Updated in February — PRO JOBBER

Would you like to apply for QTS with TRCN certificate from Nigeria, even if you now live abroad?

In this guide.

You will see the step-by-step process to convert your TRCN to QTS either from Nigeria or anywhere in the world and start teaching in the UK.

ALSO SEE:

See TRCN to QTS requirements

You will be required to possess and upload these documents to be reviewed.

1. An international passport

No other identity document is accepted.

Only your international passport which must still be valid (NOT expired).

  • SEE HOW TO GET A NIGERIAN PASSPORT IN LESS THAN 3 MONTHS

2. Bachelor degree

This is the minimum certificate required to TEACH IN UK SCHOOLS at any level.

You will be required to upload your Bachelor degree certificate and “transcript” too.

  • GET YOUR UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPT WITHIN A MONTH (See How…)

Also note.

Your degree MUST specifically be in one of these (13) subjects below.

  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Physics
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Latin
  • Mandarin
  • Russian
  • Spanish

Similar or related subject degree will NOT be accepted.

3. TRCN certificate

This is necessary — it is what you are converting to QTS after all.

However.

The TRCN certificate and license will not be directly requested from you.

Instead you will request TRCN to send your “Letter of Professional Standing” (LoPS) to the UK government in-charge.

It is before sending this “LoPS” that TRCN will request for your certificate and license to confirm that you did and passed the exam.

  • REQUEST FOR TRCN LETTER OF PROFESSIONAL STANDING NOW

Please note.

You cannot send this letter yourself.

Only TRCN can send it on your behalf but o NOT request for it to be sent until there have been initial checks on your application.

If these checks are passed, UK government will email you and ask you to request your Letter of Professional Standing.

4. Proof of English language ability

An evidence of your English ability is required to convert your TRCN to QTS.

Your ability to hear, speak, read and write the English language tells the UK government that your teaching with the QTS will have no language barrier.

If you obtained your Bachelor degree in:

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Australia
  • The Bahamas
  • Barbados
  • Belize
  • Canada
  • Dominica
  • Great Britain
  • Grenada
  • Guernsey
  • Guyana
  • Ireland
  • Jamaica
  • Jersey
  • Malta
  • New Zealand
  • Northern Ireland
  • St Kitts and Nevis
  • St Lucia
  • St Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • USA

…then request and use your transcript from that institution as proof of your English language ability.

But if your degree was in Nigeria or any other country, you will need a different document called “Medium of Instruction” (MOI) or take an English Language Proficiency Test.

  • SEE HOW TO GET (MOI) DOCUMENT FROM YOUR UNIVERSITY
  • SEE THE APPROVED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY TESTS FOR QTS APPLICATION

5. Work experience

You need AT LEAST 1-year teaching experience to apply for QTS with TRCN certificate.

And as proof.

You will provide names and email of references who can confirm that you:

  • taught after qualifying as a teacher.
  • taught in a school that delivers mandatory education.
  • worked unsupervised with children aged 5 – 16 years.
  • were solely responsible for lessons to at least 4 students at a time.
  • were solely responsible for reporting the progress of those students.
